Bring it to the Ballot
Now you need to show an acceptable photo ID to vote - like a Wisconsin driver's license, U.S. passport, military ID, or free Wisconsin state ID card - before casting a ballot in the next election in Wisconsin. Most people already have the photo ID they need to vote, but if you don't, now you can get a Wisconsin state ID for free. Just bring a few documents - like your certified birth certificate, Social Security card and a utility bill, for example - to your local Division of Motor Vehicles.
What to Expect at the Polls
Now that people are bringing their IDs to the ballot, voting at your polling place will be a little different. Just remember to be patient; not everyone will be as prepared for these changes as you are.
***STATE IT: First you will need to state your full name and address for the election official who checks you in. They'll check your information in the poll book.
***SHOW IT: Next, it's time to show your photo ID. That way, poll workers can compare your face to your photo and confirm that you really are you.
***SIGN IT: Finally, you'll sign the poll book. Your signature should go right next to your name and address. Now you're ready to vote.
